What it is good for

Family photos

Grandparents' wedding, childhood pictures, old portraits – see them in colour for the first time.

Faded colour photos

Photos from the 70s–90s that turned pale or yellow get fresh, natural colour back.

Restore at the same time

With "restore faces & sharpen" on, blurry faces and scratches-soft detail are improved too – one click for old photos.

History & school projects

Colourise historical pictures for presentations and posts.

Then remove the background

Send the coloured photo straight to the background remover for a clean portrait or a new backdrop.

Free & private

10 photos a day, no account. Photos are deleted straight after processing.

How to colourise a photo

  1. Choose the photo – a scan or a phone picture of the print works. Crop away the frame if you can.
  2. Keep "restore faces & sharpen" on for old portraits.
  3. Click Colourise, drag the slider to compare, then download.

Questions

Are the colours real?

No one can know the real colours of a black and white photo. The AI picks natural, likely colours (skin, sky, grass, clothes) from what it learned from millions of photos. Treat it as a beautiful reconstruction, not a record.

Is it free?

Yes – 10 photos per day per person, no sign-up and no watermark.

Does it work on colour photos?

It is made for black and white and faded photos. On a normal colour photo it re-colours everything, which can look different from the original.

Why does it say the colorizer is resting?

The picture server is a single machine and is sometimes offline. The background remover is separate and always works.
